Kadyrov's advocate to challenge the ruling on HRC "Memorial"

Oct 13 2009, 23:20

Andrei Krasnenkov, advocate of President of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, plans to bring protest against the ruling of the Tver Court of Moscow, which has satisfied Kadyrov's claim to the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" and to Oleg Orlov, head of this organization on defence of honour and dignity.

Mr Krasnenkov has named "ridiculous" the sum of moral compensation. Anna Stavitskaya, advocate of Oleg Orlov, said that she would appeal against the court ruling next week.

Today, Andrei Krasnenkov said in his conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that he would challenge the ruling of the court regarding moral compensation. The advocate will insist on an essential increase of the sum of compensation for moral damage. Initially, Kadyrov demanded five millions roubles from the HRC "Memorial" and the same sum personally from Oleg Orlov. "It's not clear, what the judge's reasons where, when she appointed the sums presented in the ruling," said the lawyer.

Andrei Krasnenkov has added that he will file his cassation complaint already this week, right after he receives the decision of the court on this case.

Advocate Anna Stavitskaya has reported the defence's intention to do the same. "Most likely, we'll file a complaint next week," she said.

Oleg Orlov said in his statement on the trial outcomes that should the Moscow City Court reject the complaint, "we'll address the European Court on Human Rights."
