Ibragim Mankiev, a native of Ingushetia, who was kidnapped in Egypt, was in fact detained by local special agencies as a suspect of links with Wahhabites.

The police of Egypt say that the detainee in under inquiry; and its outcomes will be reported in a week from now. The local law on emergency situations allows detaining foreign citizens for up 15 days without explaining the reasons.
The "Echo Moskvy" Radio reports that Mankiev's detention was also confirmed by Timur Agametov, Russia's vice-consul in Cairo.
According to Mussa Mankiev, the detainee's brother, Ibragim is "a very erudite person, he read sermons both in his republic and North Ossetia." Therefore, Ibragim is often invited for resolving disputes; people ask for his advice. As a result, he has drawn attention of law enforcement bodies, which suspect him of links with Wahhabites.
As Mussa asserts, Ibragim was never charged; however, in order "not to create problems for his family," he decided to go abroad and continue studying theology there.
About a month before Ibragim Mankiev's detention, Mussa was invited for a talk by President of Ingushetia Yunus-Bek Evkurov. According to his story, Mussa and his brothers were offered "to come out of the forest."
"I couldn't understand what the point was! I live in central Nazran, not in the forest! My brothers Sultan, Zelimkhan and Khamzat live near me. Ibragim is for a long time in Egypt, and two senior brothers - Isa and Boris - have long settled outside the republic: the former in Kirov, and the latter in Tyumen. I explained all that to the President," said Mussa.
