Medvedev demands to drop corruption in Northern Caucasus

Jan 29 2010, 23:50

President of Russia Dmitri Medvedev hopes that already this year the "extraordinary high" level of corruption in Northern Caucasus will be lowered. He made such statement on January 28 at the enlarged sitting of the board of the FSB (Federal Security Bureau).

According to Mr President, the FSB's main mission is the war on terror and budget plundering.

Mr Medvedev has reminded that according to his Message to the Federal Assembly the new North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) was formed, and "the newly-appointed presidential plenipotentiary of President received the broadest powers by taking the post of vice-premier in parallel."

"I think that already this year it will also help to bring the level of corruption down; now, it is extremely high," the President has stated. "It's high everywhere in the country, but there it's just out-of-limit. We need to 'put the house in order' there."

Dmitri Medvedev has emphasized the must to strictly supervise the purposeful use of the budget funds allocated for the regions of Northern Caucasus. "We allot plenty of money, but the effect is low, as you all know," he said.

"In my turn, I'll myself make decision concerning governors and power agencies," the ITAR-TASS quotes Mr Medvedev as saying.
