Coordination board of Balkar organizations starts preparing Congress of Balkar People

On August 31, the coordination board (CB) of Balkar NGOs made a decision to convoke a congress for deciding on the issue of self-determination of the Balkar people. Bakhaudin Etezov was unanimously elected to be the chairman of the organizing committee of the congress. The organizing committee includes all the CB members and will invite experts - Balkar historians, economists and lawyers.

Yerevan mayoralty bans oppositional rally in Freedom Square

Having banned the oppositional rally in the Freedom Square on September 17, the mayoralty offered to hold the action in the territory adjoining Matenadaran. The Armenian National Congress (ANC) believes this decision to be "obviously illegal".

ECtHR to consider claims of Azerbaijani citizens to Armenia and vice versa

On September 15, the High Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) will consider the claim of an Armenian citizen against Azerbaijan and the claim of six Azerbaijanis against Armenia. The applicants claim violations of their civil rights during the Karabakh War in 1991-1992.

In Riga, organizers of dispersed picket for renaming Dudaev Street will go to court against police actions

The picket "For Riga without Dudaev", which was planned by activists of the Party "For Human Rights in United Latvia" (FHRUL) on August 25 at the building of the Riga City Duma, was dispersed by municipal police soon after some two dozens of local residents grouped around the picketers. Its organizers are going to sue the police and the mayoralty.

Georgia threatens to arrest foreigners who visit Abkhazia and South Ossetia

The foreigners who visit Abkhazia and South Ossetia without permit of Georgian authorities will be exposed to criminal liability, once they appear in the territory of Georgia. This was stated today by Shota Utiashvili, official spokesman of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Georgia. Today, it became known that citizens of Russia and Armenia are already behind bars in Georgia for illegal border crossing.

Kadyrov's presence at Sulim Yamadaev's commemoration means complete reconciliation of conflicting parties, observers believe

On August 25, President of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, together with Deputy of the Russian State Duma Adam Delimkhanov, visited the commemoration ceremony in the Yamadaevs house in Gudermes. As local observers believe, Kadyrov's and Delimkhanov's presence at the mourning ceremony in the house of the Yamadaev clan indicates the final reconciliation of the parties in conflict.

Tbilisi: street traders create their professional league

The aim of the new league will be to fight for cancellation of the street trade ban. "To have the street trade ban cancelled, the league will use all the methods permissible within the bounds of the Constitution. We'll hold protest actions and file respective applications to the Sacrebulo (local government body), Public Prosecutor's Office and Parliament," Lasha Chkhartishvili, one of the leaders of the oppositional Conservative Party of Georgia, who helped to create the league, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
