Ancient fresco found in Georgian monastery

A fresco of the 11th century, depicting, supposedly, Tsar David Agmashenebeli (David the Builder), was found in the cathedral church of the Georgian monastery Alaverdi. This was reported by Nika Vacheishvili, head of the Agency for Protection of Cultural Heritage of Georgia.

Lebedev's expedition to the Caucasus: Azerbaijan - "in juncture of civilizations", Georgia - "not the States yet, but tries a lot"

The participants of the ethnographic expedition, which started from Moscow to the Caucasus on July 15 and organized by the well-known Russian designer and blogger Artemiy Lebedev, have already visited the south of Russia and are now getting acquainted with Southern Caucasus. After the North-Caucasian republics, the crews have visited Azerbaijan and Georgia.

Tbilisi hosts exhibition of Russian photographer on victims of armed conflicts

The "Karvasla" exhibition centre in Tbilisi hosts an exhibition of photo works by the Russian journalist and photographer of Victoria Ivleva "Apotheosis of War". The exposition includes 42 photos made in 1992-2005 and dedicated to victims of armed conflicts in different corners of the planet.

Funds are not enough to erect in Moscow prototype of Memorial of Glory demolished in Kutaisi

Erection of a monument in Moscow instead of the Memorial of Glory blown up in Kutaisi may face certain difficulties. As of July 12, 7 million roubles were raised for the purpose, which is, as noted by Valery Vinogradov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow, obviously not enough. It is planned to start construction already in the end of July and to open the memorial on December 19 - one year after the monument was blown up in Kutaisi, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Advocates of "Taboo Art" organizers to apply to ECtHR

The defence of the convicted organizers of the an exhibition "Taboo Art-2006" Yuri Samodurov and Andrei Yerofeev plans to apply to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) with a complaint against violations of clients' rights to expression of their opinion. The opponents of the exhibition are going to strive for expulsion of the convicts from Russia.

All-Armenian forum of writers to take place in Yerevan

The Ministry on Diaspora Matters is organizing, together with the Union of Writers of Armenia, from June 28 to July 2 in Yerevan the 5th Forum of Writers under the motto "Armenian Literature Is Armenian Fortress". The forum is held within the festival "One Nation - One Culture" and will bring together about 100 writers from 20 countries.

Azerbaijanis of Karabakh are against building Russian Orthodox church in Stepanakert

On June 18, Stepanakert, the capital of Nagorno-Karabakh, saw a solemn ceremony of laying the first stone into the foundation of the Orthodox temple of Madonna Holy Protection and Holy Cross Day. The Azerbaijani community of Nagorno-Karabakh is against construction of an Orthodox church "in occupied Azerbaijani territories" and is going to protest.
