Igor Kuznetsov: Yazidis and Kurmanches in Krasnodar Territory receive Russian passports

The situation with the Yazidis and Kurmanches, living in the Krasnodar Territory, who were long refused by local authorities of any documents, is gradually becoming better. By today, only no more than 20 percent of them still have Soviet documents, and this figure goes down step by step. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent learnt about it from the interview he took from Igor Kuznetsov, associate professor of the division of archaeology, ethnology of ancient and medieval history of the Kuban State University and one of the founders of the Centre of Caucasian-Pontic Studies.

Moscow hosts photo exhibition about Yazidis and Kurds living in southern Russia

On March 1-14, the Andrei Sakharov Museum and Public Centre in Moscow holds a photo exhibition by Yuri Ivaschenko entitled "The Eradicated", presenting a series of documentary photos about two nationalities living in the south of Russia - Yazidis and Batumi Kurds-Kurmanches.

Evkurov: Islamic complex in Magas should consolidate Ingush society

The large Islamic complex to be erected in the city of Magas, where the main object will be the Cathedral Mosque capable to house 8000 believers, will also comprise the Islamic University for 300 students, a students' hostel, a building of the Republic's Spiritual Department of Moslems, a hotel and a "Khalyal" shopping centre. This was reported by President Yunus-Bek Evkurov.

Khloponin: Northern Caucasus needs programme of cultural development

A cultural programme will promote changes in the image of Northern Caucasus and in the attitude to the region, said Alexander Khloponin, Plenipotentiary of Russian President in the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), at the meeting in Vladikavkaz with members of the creative unions and religious organizations.

Makhachkala has opened an exhibition "Northern Caucasus - on Road of Changes" showing works of photographers from Dagestan, Ingushetia, North Ossetia, Chechnya and other regions. After Makhachkala, the exhibition will go to Nazran, Grozny and Vladikavkaz.

Rostov to hold charitable action of International Film Festival "Stalker"

In the period from February 25 to March 1, the Don State Public Library of Rostov-on-Don will host a charitable action of the International Festival of Human Rights Films "Stalker". The organizers of the action are the Moscow Guild of Theatre and Cinema Actors, Rostov Regional Branch of the Union of Journalists of Russia, supported by the European Union. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent learnt about it on February 18 from Igor Stepanov, General Producer of the Festival and a member of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia.

Residents of Nagorno-Karabakh to raise money for restoration of Shusha

On November 26, in Los Angeles, under the initiative of the All-Armenian Foundation "Ayastan" another charitable telethon event will be held. The funds raised in the course of it will go to restoration and development of the city of Shusha in Nagorno-Karabakh. Residents of Nagorno-Karabakh will also traditionally take part in the action.

Mutsolgov: 95 percent of bride kidnappings in Ingushetia are pre-agreed

The majority of bride kidnappings in Ingushetia take place upon prior agreement between the families of the would-be couple. According to Magomed Mutsolgov, a member of the advisory board on human rights in Russia and leader of the human rights NGO "Mashr", only five percent of such kidnappings end with opening of criminal cases.
