Today in Moscow, in Chistye Prudy, at the monument to Alexander Griboedov, a picket was held in memory of the leader of Chechen separatists Aslan Maskhadov.

Opening of "Verkhni Lars" is no indication of improved Russian-Georgian relations, Georgia's ambassador to Armenia says

As stated at a press conference on March 11 by Grigol Tabatadze, ambassador of Georgia to Armenia, by having reopened the border check point "Verkhni Lars", Georgia sacrificed a lot and did it, first of all, to preserve good neighbourhood relations with Armenia.

Chechnya: two locals convicted for murdering frontier guards

On March 10, two residents of the Chechen Republic, earlier members of armed separatists' groupings, were convicted to long imprisonment terms for murdering three federal soldiers in 2002.

Suspects of blowing up "Neva-Express" train, detained in Ingushetia, refuse to plead guilty

None of the detainees in the course of special operation conducted in Ekazhevo village in Ingushetia, suspected of taking part in blowing up the "Neva-Express" train, has pled guilty. All of them are arrested. According to the legislation, a charge of terrorism should be presented to them within 30 day after arrest.

Participants of Moscow-Tbilisi-Yerevan space bridge differ in assessing "Verkhni Lars" opening

In the course of the space bridge held on March 9 by the RIA "Novosti" between Armenian, Georgian and Russian experts, who discussed the opening of the surface border between Russia and Georgia at the check points "Darial" and "Verkhni Lars", it became clear that the experts viewed the event differently. Alexei Malashenko from the Carnegie Institute treated the fact positively, while Georgiy Khaindrava, one of the leaders of the non-parliamentary opposition, found incompatible such factors like "occupation of Georgian regions" and simultaneous restoration of communication between the two countries.

Lebedev: UN Special Representative's report on his visit to South Ossetia is lopsided and biased

The Russian delegation labelled as politicized the report of Walter Kelin, Special Representative of Secretary General of the United Nations on Internally Displaced Persons' Rights, which summed up his visit to South Ossetia. The report was presented on March 8 at the 13th Session of the United Nations on Human Rights (HRS) held in Switzerland. In the opinion of Mikhail Lebedev, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation at the UN Branch and other international organizations in Geneva, the report is lopsided, biased and contains factual mistakes.

Fate of Chechen resident who disappeared in Ingushetia still unknown

Mair-Ali Vakhaev, a resident of the Achkhoy-Martan District of Chechnya who disappeared on February 11 in the Sunzha District of Ingushetia, is still undetected. The law enforcement bodies of the Chechen Republic now nothing about his fate. A source from there does not exclude that Vakhaev could be killed by militaries, and his body hidden.

Nalchik holds rally on Memory Day of Balkars' deportation victims

The rally of Balkars, held today in Nalchik, at the Memorial to victims of violent deportation of the Balkar nationals, has instructed the Board of Elders of the Balkar People (BEBP) and the organization named "Balkaria" to initiate the process of self-identification of the Balkar people, since the problems raised by the BEBP on behalf of the nation are not solved. About 500 persons present at the event have voted unanimously for the initiative.

Five years after death of Chechen separatists' leader Aslan Maskhadov

Five years ago, on March 8, 2005, it was announced that in the plain Grozny District of Chechnya, as a result of successful operation of Russian special agencies Aslan Maskhadov, President of the self-proclaimed Chechen Republic of Ichkeria (ChRI), was liquidated. Some people in Chechnya still believe that Maskhadov was killed on other day and in other place, while the special operation in Tolstoy-Yurt village, where he was allegedly liquidated, was just an imitation.

Armenia welcomes US resolution on genocide, Turkey protests

Sappers to blow up mine-studded houses in the venue of special operation in Ingushetia

Two private houses in the special operation zone in Ekazhevo village, Nazran District of Ingushetia, had been mined with non-extractable mines, as reported by a source in power agencies. According to his story, these buildings will be blown up by sappers. The body of supposed Said Buryatskiy, found after examination of the operation venue, was already delivered to the Centre of Forensic-Medical Examination of the Ministry of Defence in Rostov-on-Don, where the genetic examination will be held to identify the casualty.

Militant Said Buryatskiy liquidated in Ingushetia

As a result of a special operation conducted by FSB agents in Ekazhevo village, Nazran District of Ingushetia, one of militants' leaders - Said Buryatskiy (initial name - Alexander Tikhomirov) - was killed. Several sources in power agencies have reported about it today.
