Russia: Authorities Should Free Chechen Human Rights Defender Immediately
“By all appearances Oyub Titiev’s case is fabricated as a revenge for his human rights work. We demand Russian authorities to drop charges, immediately release Oyub Titiev, and guarantee his safety. Russia’s international partners should keep a close watch on the situation and demand Russian authorities to free Oyub Titiev,” said Joanna Kurosz, Eurasia programme director at Civil Rights Defenders.

HRC "Memorial" reports threats to relatives of Chechen rights defender Oyub Titiev
Law enforcers have demanded from relatives of Oyub Titiev, the detained Chechen rights defender, that his son and brother should appear at the police, otherwise they would face troubles. This was reported by the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".

Gaitukaev's funeral in Chechnya attended by about a thousand
Lom-Ali Gaitukaev, who was convicted for the murder of Anna Politkovskaya and died in a Vologda colony, was buried into the cemetery of Achkhoy-Martan village, his relatives have reported. In Achkhoy-Martan, they do not believe that Gaitukaev was the organizer of Politkovskaya's murder, said a local woman.

Participants of Politkovskaya commemoration recollect journalists killed in Russia
The participants of the action in memory of Anna Politkovskaya, the slain journalist of the "Novaya Gazeta", have brought to the monument of Lermontov in Moscow puppets in black bags, symbolizing six journalists assassinated in Russia, namely: Anna Politkovskaya, Mikhail Beketov, Magomed Evloev, Anastasia Baburova, Natalia Estemirova and Gadjimurad Kamalov, and read out fragments of journalists' writings.

ECtHR requests additional materials on case of Natalia Estemirova's murder

Human rights defenders demand to find killers of Natalia Estemirova
Today, on the seventh anniversary of the murder of human rights defender Natalia Estemirova, ten people have held solo pickets in front of the building of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) in Moscow. CoE's Commissioner acts as third party in Estemirova's case
Today, Nils Muižnieks, the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe (CoE), has published a memo on the murder case of Natalia Estemirova, a Russian rights defender and journalist, an employee of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial". On March 15, the memo was submitted to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), which considers a complaint lodged by Estemirova's sister. The CoE's Commissioner has acted at the ECtHR as a third party in the case.
