CPJ expresses concern over failure of justice in some cases on journalists' murders in Russia
Today, the failure of justice in the cases on journalists' murders is one of the main enemies of press freedom, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) states. According to the CPJ, 370 journalists were killed throughout the world during the period of 2004-2013. Meanwhile, according to the CPJ, no one has been held criminally liable for 333 of the above mentioned murders of journalists.

UN HRC adopts resolution on journalists' safety
A resolution calling to ensure the safety of journalists and media workers has been adopted by the Human Rights Council (HRC) of the United Nations (UN). The human rights organization "Article 19", which gave advice on the resolution, has again urged Russia to resume the investigation into the murder of the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev.

ECtHR awards 60,000 euros of compensation to persons involved in one of Natalia Estemirova’s last cases
The European Court of Human Rights has pronounced its decision in the case of "Makaeva vs. Russia". In Russia, the case was investigated by Natalia Estemirova and Akhmed Gisaev, employees of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial". Aima Makaeva, a resident of Grozny, the applicant in the case, filed a complaint about kidnapping of her son Apti Zainalov by law enforcers. The ECtHR has found out that the kidnappers were state agents. Furthermore, the ECtHR has found violations of the applicant's rights and awarded the mother of the kidnapped man a compensation of 60,000 euros.
