In Kalmykia, chief state tax inspector convicted for bribe
The Elista City Court has passed a verdict of guilty to the lady-chief state tax inspector of the Divisions of Field Checks No. 1 for Elista of the Inspectorate of the Federal Tax Service (IFTS) of Russia. She was found guilty of taking a bribe for illegal inactivity.

Kalmykia to mark one of the main national holidays - Tsagan Sar
On February 14, Kalmykia will mark the national spring holiday - Tsagan Sar (White Month). Traditionally, celebratory actions and molebens will be held in all the khuruls (monasteries and prayer houses) of the republic.

Residents of Kalmykia: militiamen and doctors are most corrupted
Residents of Kalmykia think, and social polls support their conclusions, that STSI (State Traffic Safety Inspectorate) employees, militiamen, and workers of medical and educational establishments are most corrupted in their republic. It was declared on January 28 by Prime Minister Vladimir Sengleev at the government's sitting.

Kalmykian SC rules that Elista residents shall elect their city Mayor
The Supreme Court (SC) of Kalmykia has defined an election system of Mayor of the republic's capital Elista. The city head will be elected by all the townspeople with suffrage, not just by the deputies of the city assembly.

Kalmykia commemorates deportation victims
Today, the republic marks the Memory Day on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of deportation of Kalmyks accused of treason. They were not just exiled, but spread over the vast Siberia - from the very north to the Far East and Kazakhstan. Almost half of all deported Kalmyks died in exile. Practically every family has whom to commemorate: their relatives perished either on the way or in exile - far from homeland.

The Office has revealed that almost 6 million roubles, raised for the victims of the war in South Ossetia, were spent not to the purpose.

As reported by the regional branch of Russian "Rospotebnadzor" (Federal Agency for Consumer Supervision), 30 cases of the disease have been registered in this republic.

Elista Mayor wants to be Kalmykia's Prime Minister
Mayor of Elista Radiy Burulov has offered himself to local members of the "Edinaya Rossiya" Party as a candidate to the post of Kalmykia's Premier. Mr Burulov said that he would like to share the power in the republic among the Prime Minister and the President and offered the latter to deal exclusively with political matters and not to interfere with operation of the government.

Kalmykia spent money for South Ossetia on rock festival
In Kalmykia, the inquiry has revealed that the money in the sum of 5.705 million roubles, raised for rendering help to the victims of the war in South Ossetia, was spent on holding a musical festival.

Lawyer Boris Kuznetsov who represented the interests of Levon Chakhmakhchian, convicted earlier ex-senator of Kalmykia, expects his criminal case to be dropped and intends to get rehabilitation.
